If you’ve been watching YouTube videos over the last few days, you’ll have noticed they’ve radically changed the interface to what seems a seriously backwards step in both usability and experience. Shiva Rajaraman (a Google Product Manager) commented: “We really felt like we needed to step back and remove the clutter…”
Remove the clutter they did, while also removing all the standard interface elements you’ve grown to love, leaving us with a really disjointed interface that leaves you searching for what to do and where to go. If you want to get to know the new interface this video is all you need!

I’ve just gone right through the interface tonight, it’s rubbish! I’m going to go on record saying it’s probably the worst interface change I’ve ever seen from any company, let alone one as important YouTube!
I wonder if the new interface get them more ad-clicks?
Is it really that bad? I mean, sure its an interface change but to be honest, as someone who accesses Youtube every single day for various reasons both professional and personal, the interface didn’t bother me at all. I simply went straight to where I usually go first (Search Bar), then after viewing what I needed to, I randomly looked at My Subscriptions for some new stuff and that’s about it.
And I’m sure there must be a lot of users like me who couldn’t care less as long as the info they want is easily accessible through the Search Function.
Right?
I hate it, for some reason I cannot comment a video because I just don’t have the option, and when you click on a video to watch it there is no page just a white screen with the video playing in the top left hand corner, no option to favorite, add to playlist, no comments, nothing. What is going on?
Finally, a website that actually judges UI design properly. Yes, it is a downgrade. Seriously, there are bugs, poorer designs etc. Regardless of being used to it, it will NEVER be better than the old one. To those who think it’s better, you need to come to your senses.
