There are some funny laws in Australia, and one of them is the Parallel Importation Law that forbids companies in Australia importing books from overseas suppliers if a local publisher has that book, which means the publisher can whole sale that book at what ever price they want…
So we launched a “Cheaper Books” blog for the Coalition For Cheaper Books in Australia to post what ever information they need to respond to the huge media battle at hand, complete with a legal petition thats cracked over 18,000 signatures so far… Check out the site here.

nice!
This is a good law… Are motor vehicles assembled here in Australia? Yes. Have you ever operated a retail store, say sports goods? And had a parallel importer pretty much under cut you by %50?
Its harsh.
I hope you decision was informed.
2 cents.
The Coalition For Cheaper books is nothing more than a consortium of major retailers in Australia trying to push all the small to medium sized bookshops out of business buy using their buying power to undercut the wholesale prices of Australian publishers and in doing so, destroying the Australian publishing industry in the process. What’s the only thing in their way? Parallel Importation Law. If the coalition gets their way Australian will pay more for their book in the long run. It always happens when you reduce competition. As for the 18,000 signatures, if dymocks told the truth when they petitioned their booklovers account holders they wouldn’t have half that amount. The coalition for deception and lies more like it.
