By now you’ve seen the new Facebook Profile photo functionality/layout, and you’ve probably also seen a bunch of people showcasing some pretty cool images. Chances are they used this clever little app from Schweppes (by Super Social) to create their seamless profile image.
I think this is a great strategic play by Schweppes, a simple branded app that is almost* completely selfless (compared to a lot of apps out there), providing a service that will be increasingly popular as the trend catches on, plus it’s pretty quick from start to finish, providing what most users would have needed Photoshop for, so it should gain some traction with Facebook users! Great play, great app, looking forward to seeing if it catches on! Click here to check out the app.

To be honest, the Schweppes app is not really userfriendly. You have to tag the photos yourself. Other apps (including the one at http://yournewprofile.com ) take these steps for your
@Sander I tested http://yournewprofile.com it looks user friendly, but it doesn’t upload images, so the Schweppes App on Facebook (I like the fact that I don’t have to leave Facebook to do this) works fine for me.
It’s a cool app, but what is the idea? I don’t get the connection between the brand and this app
interesting idea, what’s in it for Schweppes though? is it just a branding thing?

Hi everybody! Nice to see you like the app. I can give you some answers to your questions and concerns as I am the online communication manager for Orangina Schweppes International.
@Sander: We know it is easier if the app would do the tagging automatically. However this won’t be possible with the new FB API. yournewprofile.com is built on the old FB API and soon won’t work anymore as FB will soon switch completely to the new API. In order to have our app working well in the coming months, we chose to work with the new FB API.
@Zaheer and Elliot: At Schweppes we strongly believe in thanking our brand fans and facilitating with experiences and applications that enrich their lives. Now we created this app to help our fans to make their profile more classy and sophisticated, like Schweppes…
So what do we get out of it: we increase the likability of our brand, we increase our fan base, we show that Schweppes understands how social media works without being too commercial. It is one of the first things we do in social media. 1 year ago we did not even have any presence in social media.. These first steps are great for learning what works and what doesn’t work for a softdrink brand like Schweppes! So far the results are quite good. A lot of blogs writing about the app and more and more people using the app!
@David, it should upload your photos so I’m afraid something went wrong. If you could contact me on Twitter (@Zoefff) I can look in to it
@Menno, as long as it is avaiable, I’d like to use it as much as possible. As far as I know, there are no dates known for complete shutdown of the old REST api.
Nice app, had a bit of trouble at first getting the small tagged images in the right order until I slowed down the tagging process to let each one get the right timestamp.
Doesn’t work when trying to upload via FB on MacBook? I can upload/edit photos, however app hangs when trying to save. Pity – it’s a fun & creative idea…
Please, someone, help! I cannot make this work and, as I researched, I saw that a lot of people complained on the same! I have tried many different times, with some variations, the same basic steps: (1) Upload the photo, Edit and Save (through the App); (2) tag the photos, last-to-first (only the small ones); (3) make the main (untagged) picture your profile picture. That was it. But the 5 small thumbnails wont appear in the upper part of my profile when others visit it. Can anyone say what is wrong in this process?

To bad it doesn’t work on my MacBook. Hangs up every time… Picturizeme works just fine, but it doesn’t have the dutching option and you’re stuck with the ap’s branding in the profile picture. Not good. Younewprofile doesn’t work, probably related to the pending or happening API switch. Profile Maker is linked to a poker ap, no way I’m allowing this type of creature into my private info and networks. Profile PhotosBar works wonders.
