It’s Saturday, so I thought I’d post up something a little fun for the weekend, the NextBigThing ad. It’s the Samsung Galaxy S II taking it to stereotypical Apple fans, playing on all the disappointments of the iPhone 4s launch. What I really love about this, is that Samsung has been brave enough to have a crack, and with almost 3 million views so far, it’s not a bad effort… What did you think? Via.

Brave, maybe… But too cheesy by far to be really funny.

I think it’s pretty weak if a brand mocks another brand, instead of just showing us what their stuff can do for us. But it did make me look at that Samsung and it does look very cool :) SO that’s job done I would say.

It’s not the most subtle ad you’ll ever see, but on the other hand so many people but the iPhone for no other reason than the hype – you’d never buy one after you’d seen an S2 – so why not?

    4. Philippa Says:

I think it’s clever. I don’t normally like one brand mocking another, but Apple’s advertisements are so smug and self-satisfied that in this case I don’t mind at all!

    5. Craig Says:

The previous commenters seem to forget the Apple campaigns targeted at the PC.. started a wave of blind brand stickiness that Apple cannot keep up.

Apple is not an innovator, they did a good job of refining existing technologies then tried to lock in consumers with their proprietary eco system.

Will Apple’s foray into Digital TV be a threat to Samsung? The guts are NIH so Samsung will prevail on scale and market share.

Samsung has done what is inevitable.

I’m sorry… NO, I’m not…this ad is CRAP. There I said it! Yeah that’s right I’ve got the cojones to step up.

The reason people wait “9 hours” for the iPhone is because that bloody thing is awesome! I can deposit checks directly to my bank account, book a Zipcar, get subway information with directions and times, touch a date and time in my email and it automatically gets put in my calendar, voice command multiple features on the phone…. jeez I could go on and ON. The only thing that Samsung toted was the screen is bigger. Whoooooptieee Freaking Doooo!

Note to Samsung if you want to persuade potential customers to come buy your product show them what they are missing. Create a feeling… you want your customer to go… “COOL.” I do not hear any of my iPhone friends complaining about the size of their screen. If I wanted a bigger screen I’d get an iPad.

Look I get that Samsung is trying to capitalize in the smartphone arena. The problem is Samsung hired the wrong creative team. Yes I get the Samsung phone is iPhone like but ultimately Samsung needs to set itself apart and blaze a trail that get people to go WOW. Well Samsung….. ya didn’t.

“I could never get a Samsung, I’m creative”. Great Ad.

@ spencer, Apple fanboi alert! I suggest u research a product before u make a comment, the galaxy s2 can do all the features u listed and more, and if doesnt u can change so it does, its called customization a feature even ur latest 4s doesnt have, but I guess u forgot to research that before u blindly walked into the apple store to purchase ur latest outdated phone
