Yes, Flash Mobs were once cool, a long long time ago… This new campaign from Samsung is almost a hybrid between a TV Ad, Attempted Viral and Weird Flash Mob that all seem to come together to offer something a little interesting but completely weird! It starts pretty natural, with a little girl dancing on a rug at day care, before a few of the mothers join in and then randomly a few guys… Moments later there are people outside looking in and there after a massive crowd dancing in the street complete with what looks like floating dancers and even a parade float! The viral campaign has been on YouTube for a few days, generating a pretty minute 20,000 views so far. I’m not sure what to make of this, what does everyone think?!
What is much much better is the new Samsung Galaxy Website – where you can control a video of a day in the life of a person using a Samsung Galaxy. Click here to check out the website.

It is weird. My gut reaction is that it feels too contrived, like it’s trying too hard. I think once that realisation is made (that it’s a bit fake) it undermines itself. The best part is just watching the girl in the very beginning, without the backup dancers, and the way she makes a slip and trips. It’s endearing and real.
I don’t know, that’s just my instinctual feeling about it.
Also, “Use your influence” sounds really menacing, when the idea they’re trying to get across is sharing.
I agree it’s a little to “put on,” for me. The little girl seems spontaneous enough but the others are just dancers copying her instead of the ordinary folks copying her. And if it’s supposed to be about sharing than the “Use your influence,” tag seems a bit much. However, I guess its appealing to the power quotient of the social media sphere where you tell others about something and they immediately like it on FB or Groupon or whatever. But pointing that out seems a bit – well too creepy. It’s like we’re all ads now pushing people to do something that they wouldn’t normally do, not because it’s fun but because they said so. If the dancers had watched the little girl more, like observed her movements, then laughed a little and eased into the dance it wouldn’t seem so fake it would seem like they are “catching,” her little girl dance fever instead of copying her moves for the good of a commercial. Just all out weird.
178,000+ views now.
But quite a negative reaction in the comments.
People want ultimately want something new and this is not it….
I wonder if it was from the Viral Factory? I would be surprised if it is because they normally have awesome ideas…
PS, yes the website sucks
This is similar to the concept of the 2002 Moloko video – Forever More http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lgvpkOR9sw
Nice idea, but it’s nothing new.
its at 2 million now so….i guess that makes it a viral hit
