Here’s the latest piece of content from Redbull’s Parkour sponsorship of Jason Paul, this time, they’ve setup what’s been named a ‘Human Powered Freerunning Machine’… Which from my decryption is an engineered environmental dominos setup that sees Jason Paul run through various contraptions to the finish line. The video has racked up 5 million views in just a few days and to be honest, with those numbers and a great name, I was expecting something super cool. It is cool, but I’m not sure I got the wow factor… It felt a little bit under engineered compared to other similar styled videos and a just lacked that punch for me. What did you guys think?

I have similar feeling…little bit disappointed at the end. Some parts felt like they are engineering the obstacles and pieces of “domino” just for the sake of adding another one with no real reason for that piece to be there.
Dont rate the camera this time too…bit confusing and doesnt really flow…
Lacks wow factor? I’m getting my wow factor now from how jaded you must be!! When you say “It felt a little bit under engineered compared to other similar styled videos” perhaps you’re thinking Honda’s super-slick original, but you miss the point that Honda’s all about engineering, this has much more humour and energy in it which is entirely appropriate for this brand. I really like the grungey look.
[...] 2 – Rather nifty video from Red Bull [...]
I agree. No matter how tweaked the concept was to accomodate the tone of the brand, I can’t help but compare it to Ok GO’s – This too shall pass video, or the 2d photography Rube Goldberg machine, or obviously the Honda O.G. – where the literal machine was much more intricate and developed. I think they attempted something new, having Jason Paul be one of the cogs in the machine, but it just didn’t pack a punch. Maybe also because I just watched a dude jump from space.
