You may have already seen this, but dead set, if this isn’t the best iAd campaign to date, then it’s certainly the best ever iAd Demo video, and that might just be pretty dam tough to beat!
Nissan have been growing more and more innovative with their marketing of late, and were the very first Apple partner to create a rich iAd experience, so it’s great to see them continue pushing the boundaries with campaigns like this, the new Nissan Juke iAd, which actually claims to be, the first ever iAd comic book style experience.
The Nissan Juke iAd is seriously rich, with about 5 minutes of engagement created through the choose your own adventure style experience as users enter the “Mission: Donuts” challenge to win their very own Nissan Juke from inside the iAd. I suspect this might just be the most popular reference campaign for 2011… And it was created by TBWA \ Chiat \ Day in Los Angeles.

This is indeed an incredibly creative execution, and I applaude Nissan for being so innovative in the approach, but don’t you think that people would find this a little bit too heavy? Still can’t make my minds up…
I’m all for the engagement and as a ‘digital head’ I should stay on the ‘engagement side’ as much as I can, but don’t you think this goes a little bit too far?
I’m sure they’re going to get shed loads of coverage for this; not sure if it’s going to be for the right reasons though…

You raise a pretty good point. It is indeed a seriously indepth ad, and I think the conversion rate of people getting to the end will be low-ish – but along the way they’ll grab some great stats to justify the campaign.
I think while iAds are so new, these over exuberant ads will actually be thinks that people want to play with. I suspect they’ll become more and more “game” focused purely to deliver brand engagement – which – is where the ad world is heading anyway.
But, I think you’ll see the market mature in a year or two and they’ll more to a more conversion focused outcome…
