One of the biggest issues around Nike+ was the requirement to buy specific shoes no body actually wanted. So it’s great to see they’ve now opened up a little of the power from Nike+ to anyone with an iPhone, it will cost you, but at $1.99 its very very cheap. I suspect in some ways Nike is fending off the RunKeeper iPhone app, which has had some great success over the last 12 months, along with a number of other GPS performance tracking apps and even physical products that have hit the shelves this year. Has anyone given this a workout yet? Click here to download from iTunes.

Only problem is, you have to run everywhere with your iPhone strapped on! It’s why I prefer the iPod Nano for exercise, but of course – no geolocation capability.
I’m loving the new app, but it has a few flaws. It says you can set goals at nikeplus.com but the site doesn’t work on mobile devices. The only options you have are to look at shoes!
Also, it doesn’t seem to keep going if you make / take a phone call while running. Even with the GPS it doesn’t calculate your continued distance, it just stops.
i’ve tested both apps (the one with sensor and GPS) and i must admit that the second one is much better. there’s no need for additional calibration which in some cases is really “painful”.
it’s also more accurate as it comes to distance calculation, but it happens sometimes that GPS is loosing singal. Big plus is a challenging mode!

Anyway, at the end it’s all about fun and motivation!
