Quantified living is perhaps the most dramatic emerging trend right now, and apart from wearable tracking devices, there will soon be an emergence of connected objects in your home dedicated to quantifying every other part of your life…

MIT Media Lab students have created a ‘Medical Mirror’ prototype that is able to monitor vital signs and show the inner health of the person standing in front of it. When your heart beats, it sends a pulse of blood through your blood vessels to your face. Because blood absorbs light, the mirror is able to use a simple webcam, the same as the one found in your laptop, to record the fluctuation in reflected light coming off your skin translating into a heart-rate reading via the inbuilt algorithm… Yes, it’s happening. Very cool.
