Love this. With every new movie release comes an increasingly important social component that can now make or break an opening weekend. Gone are the days of the famous microsite that plays the latest trailer and challenges you to an advergame… Those days only started a few years ago for the big film studios, and have already been traded almost purely for social activation campaigns!
So here is the latest social component for the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 2 movie, in true Dreamworks style, they’ve teamed up with Famous Interactive to create the Kung Fu Panda Facebook Parade, self noted as the most awesomest panda parade ever, and surely the biggest!
Using Facebook connect the Kung Fu Panda Facebook Parade pulls in each and every one of your friends profile pics to appear in the parade, along with the furious five. Once the parade is running, hovering your mouse over any person lets you take a photo that can be instantly shared on their wall, inviting them to join the parade. It’s a cute idea that has plenty of potential!
So far, there has been over 650,000 people march in the Facebook parade, and at an average of 150 friends per person, that’s just under 5,000 people who’ve joined the parade. That might seem quite low, but it’s only just getting started, and I suspect the campaign targets would be at least 50,000+ people over the period. Check out the Kung Fu Panda Facebook Parade here.
