I’m planning another snowboarding trip right now and the guys at McCann Melbourne are trying to sway me back to Japan with this Facebook game called Powder Dash for Japan Tourism.
The app invites you carve deep powder tracks down a fresh mountain, hit jumps, score points and unlock a line of advanced boards to get you thinking about Japan. Users can challenge friends or compete on the leaderboard. I wish it had a prize incentive along the lines of the ultimate back country tour, or is that just where I want to go boarding in Feb 2011? Hmmm… (thanks Giles)

Mmmm…back country boarding in Japan…were you able to check out Iwate or Akita ken last time around? If not, it’s worth a look for this next trip.
You’ll have a great time wherever you end up!
What’s the ROI this campaign? This is a very high risk strategy in terms of potenntially low earned media & engagement numbers.
If gaming is the correct vehicle to connect with the intended audience, I would have recommended integrating with popular social and console based platform rather than trying to re-create a snowboarding game in flash as a facebook app for $250,000
