With the launch of the iPad next month, I thought it would be interesting to post this infographic for comparison in a years time to see what impact the iPad has on the app store economy, and like everyone else, I’m predicting it to be massive!
There are some great numbers in here and it’s interesting to see that the average price of all apps, including the free ones, is about $2.70 (with out them, it averages at about $3.60) and only 1 in ever 4 apps are paid. Stats like these are as good as any to help convince you to start turning those great app ideas you have into real world dollars! (via Gigaom)

Really nice infographic, the one piece of info that I’d like to see included is the amount of app’s submitted (must be a huge number) and how many get rejected by Apple for bogus and non-bogus reasons (like an app that competes with AT&T for example). This would then actually help a developer learn about some of the things they should be aware of when submitting an app in order to increase the chances of their app getting accepted.

Very interesting stuff, but don’t know if it reinforces the author’s contention that these are convincing stats to spend cash to turn those app ideas into reality. I did the math based on the numbers given, that’s over 28,000 developers competing for 175 Million in revenue in December. That’s less than 7k per developer monthly, and that assumes that the avg. developer has 5 apps. There is a chance for success, but it can be hit or miss, particularly with the wrong idea, so don’t go smashing a piggy bank if you’re not a developer. Sites like ours let user submit their own ideas for free, and let users vote on which ideas get built. If your idea gets picked, you get $1,000 and a share of the profits. Probably not going to retire on it, but a good alternative for a user with a good idea.
