I’m really glad agencies are still trying to innovate and be extra creative inside banner ads, they are begging for it as a whole, and a great banner easily becomes brilliant! Every month or so someone sends through a banner ad cool enough to post and today is that day.
Presenting… IKEA’s smallest store in the world, yet perhaps it’s also the biggest banner ad ever seen, fitting all 2800+ products inside the banner, equivalent to every single product in an entire IKEA store. It looks a little 8-Bit until you roll-over! Via Tim over at Adverblog.
I’ve heard some crazy things from people who work behind the scenes with IKEA but this has to be one of the most endearing clips about a really clever twist on a traditional big box banner campaign. Redeeming qualities pulse through.
I’m a big fan of creativity in banner ads, and this is one of my favorite. Perhaps not practical, it is cool, and it is something that’s getting people talking. Great use of limited space, and in turn, great use representing Ikea’s branding. In fact, I even put in on my “Can’t Miss” list from last week (which you can check out here if you’re so inclined: http://thehalogroupeffect.com/post/21448098744/5-things-you-shouldnt-have-missed-this-week).
How much did that cost? It’s all fine and dandy that somebody has created an innovative banner but are they going to get their ROI. I highly doubt it. Show me something that not only delivers on creativity but also on results. Oh – not to mention having a polite download. Another deterrent for the consumer. Let’s think big picture here…
I think is a great idea but in terms of usability I don’t think this banner is that good, don’t you think? What’s sure is the fact Ikea will generate a huge PR value with the concept line ” The smallest store in the world”
Absolutely fantastic idea! Can’t remember a concept as simple as this which leads the customer to purchase within 2/3 clicks.
For a banner so small, I think the usability is surprisingly good and I love the playful sound design as well. Check it out:

Congratulations IKEA… this is a winner!
Now that is cool!
I love the fact that within 2/3 clicks, you can buy the product. The playful sound design is very addictive and I think the usability is pretty good considering it’s all within a banner that size.
I just found a link to the store on another blog, check it out:

Nice work IKEA, this will win big!
Great work – love it
