A friend sent me a Vimeo link last night, it was the Honda Let It Shine TVC and I thought, well I’ve seen this about 10 times already, but its a catchy song so I played it again anyway. But this was “the” Honda Let It Shine Vimeo Experience, in similar contrast to the Warrio Land YouTube Experience, Honda has worked with Vimeo to create a full page takeover insync with the video. It was created by Wieden+Kennedy (Amsterdam) and is a very slick little piece. Click here to view the Honda Vimeo Experience.

The video is very cool, but in my mind, you’re missing the most compelling content, which is the back story on how it was done, the creative ideation behind the concept, etc. The end result is a very cool 60-second spot, but there’s so much more that could have been done with this online.
A good example is the execution that my company created for Lincoln-Mercury. The agency they worked with was driving traffic to their website, http://www.lincolnlounge.com, but upon a user arriving at the site, they were served up the same spot they just watched on tv. Lincoln was trying to tie the jazz lifestyle to the brand, but initially they were missing an opportunity. That is where we stepped in.
We met with the directors and producer of the spot and they had all the bonus content that wasn’t used in the commercial. Take a look at what we did with the content online. We gave the users a reason to watch the video online, we tied the Lincoln brand to the jazz lifestyle and best of all, we let the consumers in on all the back story and creative concepting that went in to its’ storyline. While it’s a very simple execution, it certainly tells a completely different story. This could not have been accomplished just through the use of the 30-second spot.

Wieden+Kennedy do it again. Fantastic use of Vimeo to pull this together. Reminds me of the samsung LED viral video but using a much cooler interface. I’m in for more “experiences” like this.
This video is awesome, but what Vimeo does with the environment around the video is truly remarkable. To respond to the first comment, there actually is a making of video on Vimeo too, so you can see how the spot was made. Kudos for shining some light in a dark time. I love it!
