You might not believe it, but Facebook makes about $5million a month selling “virtual” gifts from the Facebook Gift Store, and with that came a huge increase in revenue once they changed to “credits” rather than showing “$$” next to gifts. But now, Facebook are seriously looking to create and implement the “Facebook Virtual Currency System” as a platform wide virtual currency for all to spend, er, I mean experience!

There is already a whole range of different monetisation players on facebook, selling their own virtual currencies to buy virtual items inside facebook. Creating a single currency would provide some great ammo for developers to start charging for apps, widgets, content and the like which currently is a little daunting with $$ around them while everything else remains free or credit driven.  Check out the article here.
