Facebook Statistics, Stats and Facts for 2011 are starting to roll out, and here is the first infographic to wrap them all up thanks to Online Schools. With over 500 million users, Facebook is now used by 1 in every 13 people on earth, with over 250 million of them (over 50%) who log in every day. The average user still has about 130 friends, but that should expand in 2011.
48% of 18-34 year olds check Facebook when they wake up, with 28% doing so before even getting out of bed. The 35+ demographic is growing rapidly, now with over 30% of the entire Facebook user base. The core 18-24 year old segment is now growing the fastest at 74% year on year. Almost 72% of all US internet users are on now Facebook, while 70% of the entire user base is located outside of the US.
Over 700 Billion minutes a month are spent on Facebook, 20 million applications are installed per day and over 250 million people interact with Facebook from outside the official website on a monthly basis, across 2 million websites. Over 200 million people access Facebook via their mobile phone. 48% of young people said they now get their news through Facebook. Meanwhile, in just 20 minutes on Facebook over 1 million links are shared, 2 million friend requests are accepted and almost 3 million messages are sent.

Excellent wrap up on the ubiquity of Facebook.
“…28% doing so before even getting out of bed” – what does that say about society?

Nice stats, however I wonder alot about that figure claim of 500 million ‘active’ users. I know at least 5 or 6 people who have multiple facebook accounts for various purposes including personal accounts, professional accounts and the like. I feel the stat should be changed to say 500 million active ‘profiles’ instead. Its very misleading.

Those are some crazy statistics. Just more proof as to why businesses should really be involved in social media, specifically Facebook. If it’s being used by 1 in 13 people that means that it’s being used by your target audience.

Love the video and thanks for the stats. Hopefully new ones will be out soon for the first half of 2011. I know that 50+ women were the fastest growing demographic – I see here you have the younger group taking over that statistic.
This is a change in our communication culture and it will continue just like the internet, cell phones and texting have. While we may not talk in person as much, we are sharing with so many more people. As a Rotarian, I am thankful for the ability to extend a hand of friendship to so many and help when help is needed.
Thanks.

Interesting rank of activities: comments, photos, posts are most popular. Links and tagged photos are the least popular. The low linking rate surprised me.

Huge numbers for Facebook, although is it healthy for society that 57% of people talk more online than they do in real life?

Is there any way to find out how many Facebook users also use LinkedIn? I hear so many people use Facebook for friends and family while LinkedIn is used for professionals.
