Facebook & Internet.org have launched their first full-scale internet drone called “Aquila” which is a solar powered, unmanned plane (drone) that beams down internet connectivity from the sky to remote parts of the world who otherwise can’t get the internet, either due to cost or lack of infrastructure.

The Internet.org Drone has the wingspan of a Boeing 737, but weighs less than a car and can stay in the air for months at a time. It will also be armed with an all-new laser that can transmit data at 10 gigabits per second. That’s ten times faster than any previous laser-communications system, and it can accurately connect with a point the size of a small coin, from more than 10 miles away. Crazy!
