3D Holographic technology has taken digital mimicry to a new level at this year’s Coachella Music Festival. Concert goers were surprised with an unlikely cameo during Dr. Dre’s set. In yet another Machiavellian appearance, sightings of legendary rap artist Tupac Shakur set Twitter afire last night. Although we can’t quite say he was there in the flesh, Tupac was definitely there in very lifelike digital form. Best of all, the 3D image was rendered using footage from past live performances.
Could this approach open the door to continual legendary resurgences at concert venues? Imagine a Beatles tour, or perhaps Bob Marley headlining at reggae festivals. New possibilities to monetize on video archives are presenting themselves, what’s next for 3D Holograms?
