Here is a taste of what we’ll be seeing at this year`s Mobile World Congress (MWC). This video demos the world`s first integrated markerless 3D object tracking on a smartphone. Or, to you and me, it shows us where Augmented Reality is heading: robust, smooth and useful everyday experiences.
This technology is one of the hottest topics for this year`s MWC. In order to see broad adoption of Augmented Vision, improvements will need to be made on performance, experience and usability capabilities. Market forecasts are predicting that the “AR market” could be a $732 million market (Juniper Research) in the next five years and that the worldwide smartphone sales will exceed 1.1 billion by 2013 (Parks Associates). We’re still a fair way off of this technology becoming part of everyday life but it’s great to see how advanced technology, such as AR will be used in the future.

Thanks for the video ! Great use of augmented reality.
The potential for this is huge! It basically takes out the need for mechanics of any type from industrial mechanics fixing large machinery to the standard mechanic fixing your car, it could also be applied to plumbing, electronics, carpentry, building and anything that needs installing. It would take out the need for specialist trades or could even be applied to surgery.
I see potential, however, what about warrenty issues when fixen yourself. All though de digital manual should help, you could break something by placing the wrong force to it. Thereby, some things need both hands to carry out.
Great ideas, however, think everything thoroughly trough would be my thoughts.

Sorry, but from a usability perspective, this particular scenario would be better served with a demo video. I love AR, but cool factor should not over-ride function. Fail.
[...] One of the basic ideas of mobile augmented reality is that, when in camera mode, imagery appears on your phone’s screen that doesn’t actually exist in real life. There are immediate practical applications, like being able to use your smart phone to see how to change a toner cartridge, as in this video demonstration. [...]
