Stella Artois has created Le Bar Guide, an iPhone app for beer lovers and those just looking for a great place to have a drink. The new app enables users to search for the nearest bars serving Stella Artois via location, rating or by using the iPhone’s built-in GPS. It even has functionality to help you call a cab for when you’ve had enough and it’s time to go home. For those wanting to try out the world’s first 3D augmented reality iPhone application for beer will have to be content with just this demonstration for now, the app isn’t yet available in the App store.

A good addition for the UK would be a ‘locate person to fight’ function for after you’ve had a few Stella Art-wahs.

Love it. Incorporate the breath tester and we have a winner.
On a serious note, this incorporates great features that we are seeing with Four Square, and a fairly practical use of AR.
However, I think these apps can be a tad bit gimmicky and may not last the test of time. Data is they key here and building a global database will take time, by also limiting it to one brand is where I see these things falling down. The practical use for this GPS AR stuff will come, Four Square will be the savior.

Thanks for the write-up; we’re pretty stoked by the responses. Also, just want to let you all know that we have just released our AR Browser available now on iTunes – download it for FREE!
