Audi is claiming to have launched the world’s first interactive YouTube driving experience for the new Audi A6. The interactive YouTube experience uses the indexing feature so you can control the video with your keypad numbers, allowing you to jump from section to section to provide the illusion that you are actually controlling the car.
At first glance it looks pretty cool. The graphical quality is high with a game like feel and the video has an inset stream of a driver, but once you start to press the numerical keys you’ll quickly experience something that’s quite clunky and slow to react to the inputs.
Full marks for trying something innovative, but it’s a shame, because I really don’t think this represents the Audi driving experience very well. What do you guys think?

I agree with you – I think it is clunky, and hope (I haven’t driven the new Audi yet) this does simulate the driving experience.
Absolutely awful experience. Getting slated by the Youtubers as well.
i love advanced uses of social platforms, and the interactive numbers thing has been about for a while now with uses in music, and red bull did something similar using tricks in some FMX video recently, but this just doesn’t live up to the experience for the user.
the graphics feel ropey, and i would much rather a real car if you have a real person in the bottom left, and how about an annotation to click on the guy and have a different video with a different viewpoint to showcase the car from inside, that is essentially where everyone experiences driving of a car from.
nice original core idea, but with poor concept planning and execution
It is another example not to use every new technical possibility – it nowhere near leaves up to the expectations one has re the Audi brand and a statement like that
@Raz / @Jamie Yeah, It’s a shame really, probably just the wrong place for them to try and execute the idea…
@chris agree on the real car if they are streaming a real person. it’s disjointed.
Clunky and instructions for use aren’t really made that clear. Might be a more personal/shareable experience if it used your webcab to put a pic of you in the drivers seat.
Mitsubishi did the same thing over a year ago. Much more successful and easier to use.
Technology for technology’s sake
Well, the idea is brilliant (even if we have already seen many similar things for Street fighter and other games)), but executions is nothing special, don’t you think?
Passion makes the difference
I think you (aden) can make something more user friendly with better controls…
trying to get a job with these guys, so maybe I’ll convince them to hire you
Unfortuanately I cant get that 1 minute and 53 seconds back
What a brilliant idea. Unfortunately (as you mention in the blog) once you start hitting the keypad it gets a bit cluncky and doesn’t do too much.
Good on them for trying though.
